Welcome back to United Kingdom Tech Weekly Deals Roundup, a weekly podcast by Tracxn for key startup deals in the United Kingdom from last week. 

In this edition, we will cover funding rounds of Fresha, Signal AI, Brainomix and more. In exits, we will cover the acquisition of RootMetrics by Ookla, among others.

Starting with our deep dive into funding rounds, tech companies in the United Kingdom raised around $235 million of funding across 23 funding rounds during this week.

Beauty Tech startup Fresha raised $52 million in a Series C funding round led by BECO Capital and Michael Lahyani with participation from Target Global, Partech Partners, General Atlantic, and others. Fresha is the provider of an app-based booking platform for salons and spas. Fresha enables users to discover salons, book appointments and find deals from salon providers. Fresha also provides businesses with software tools for venue management and marketing management. Fresha offers an app for iOS and Android devices. Founded in 2018, London-based Fresha has raised $183 million till date.

Signal AI, a London-based PR Tech startup, raised $50 million in a Series D funding round led by Highland Europe with participation from Hearst, MMC Ventures, abrdn, and others. Signal AI offers an AI-based media monitoring solution. Signal AI allows users to monitor, print and broadcast media online. Signal AI provides a dashboard which enables users to visualize their collected data and generate insights. Founded in 2013, Signal AI has raised $102 million till date.

In another funding round event, HealthTech startup Brainomix raised $21 million in a Series B funding round led by Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund and Parkwalk with participation from Oxford University Innovation and Tencent. Brainomix is a provider of AI-powered imaging biomarkers for precision medicine. Brainomix has developed a medical imaging software that automatically interprets the brain CT scans of stroke patients using imaging biomarkers. Brainomix also offers a solution for the assessment of Interstitial Lung Disease. Founded in 2010, Oxford-based Brainomix has raised $34 million till date.

This was all from the funding updates, moving on to the exits. United Kingdom Tech observed 8 exits during the week of 19 Dec 2021.

RootMetrics, a London-based OSS/BSS startup, was acquired by Ookla. RootMetrics is a provider of mobile network analytics. RootMetrics is the developer of Root Coverage service which audits and analyses cellular network and device performance. RootMetrics collects network performing data from mobile users through its mobile app and provides professional services to network providers in gaining insights into their customer experience. Founded in 2008, RootMetrics has raised $5 million till date.

In another acquisition event, Food Tech startup Spoonfed was acquired by 365 Retail Markets. Spoonfed offers web-based catering software. Spoonfed enables caterers, sandwich retailers and franchises to manage their catering businesses, with features like customer ordering and order management, production planning, catering system integration, catering reports, business management reports, automatic catering invoicing, and email marketing. Founded in 2012, Edinburgh-based Spoonfed has raised $2 million till date from Equity Gap and Scottish Enterprise. 

Beauty Tech startup Blow was acquired by Holland & Barrett. Blow is an online platform to book on-demand and at-home beauty services. Blow enables users to book services like hairstyling, spray tanning, makeup, pedicures and manicures from vetted professionals who visit their home, office or hotel within a short window after booking. Blow also allows users to book appointments at nearby salons and beauty bars, and retails makeup products through its website. Founded in 2013, London-based Blow has raised $7 million till date from Debenhams, Unilever Ventures and Nick Robertson.
